Create the perfect backdrop for holiday photos

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Have you sent out your holiday photos to all of your family and friends yet? If you haven't created the perfect card yet, this weekend will be a great time to do so. Since shopping malls are zoos during this time of the year, why don't you use your Milwaukee home as a backdrop? Take a look at some helpful hints to set the stage for your holiday photos:

  • Home sweet home: If you're extra proud of the new house you just purchased, why not show it off in photo?  "Want the focus to be on your house? Take a photo in the early evening, from the outside looking in," states Houzz.com contributor Laura Gaskill. "Wait until after dark and the contrast in lighting will be too great — aim for early dusk. Focus through a window on the big indoor Christmas tree or place a smaller, potted tree outside, draped in twinkling lights."
  • Trim the tree: It's a no brainer that posing in front of your tree makes a great photo. To add to the effect, correspond your home design scheme to the holiday. Red, green or gold drapes look extra festive.
  • Use props: Using props in your holiday photo shows that you're fun and whimsical. Plus, your children will love posing with their favorite Teddy bear or book. Try to think outside of the box. For instance, pose your little ones in a red wagon or sleigh. If you want to be extra festive, dress your children in red and green, or even let them select from their favorite holiday pajamas.
