Does Your Home Need Privacy?

There are many ways you can achieve privacy for your home and family. At the top of your list should be identifying the correct window coverings. We know you need privacy, so let’s look at some ideas.

Bathrooms & Bedrooms

These rooms are a must–and should be first. But how much coverage and privacy is best?

There will be times you’ll want more light, and you won’t be concerned about privacy. This is more of a “light switch” concept. If the shades are drawn it will be dark, and that’s when you’ll need privacy. Other times, the shades are open, and it’s about visibility and light.

Your bathroom needs more features than the bedroom. During your “getting ready” time in the morning, it will most likely be important to have light and coverage at the same time.

Home Front

The front of your home is key when it comes to security. It is the part that faces the street and onlookers will be able to see in. Although the top down bottom up feature is a candidate for this area, sometimes it’s more beneficial for window treatments with directional control. A great example would be shutter and blinds. They are able to let light in, but obstruct the view.

A second option that we love is motorization. Smart shades will be able to shut out any passers-by even when you’re not home. Schedule the opening and closing of your window coverings when you really need privacy.

Out Back

When it comes to the back of your home, your concerns may not be high. However, it’s important to consider the time of day. At night, the lights on inside can make you and your family display like a spotlight. This isn’t a great way to get to know the neighbors.

The dual shade feature is the way to go in this area. They can close off the view without eliminating light. But, when you need it most, the secondary roller shade can lower in place to completely block things out.

It’s also important to consider the fabric opacity. For some windows, sheer will be enough to control the incoming light, with reflective privacy. Other windows could feature the same fabric shades, but with an opacity that makes it hard to see through.
